Losing a job unfairly, having a salary withheld, receiving less end-of-service gratuity than you are entitled to, or dealing with a workplace dispute as an employer — these are some of the most financially and emotionally significant legal situations a person or business can face in Dubai.
At DADA Legal Consultants FZ-LLC, our employment lawyer Dubai team advises both employees and employers across the full scope of UAE labour law. We have been handling employment disputes in Dubai for over twelve years — through two complete overhauls of the UAE's labour legislation, across MOHRE conciliation, Dubai Labour Court, and DIFC employment proceedings.
If you have a labour or employment matter in Dubai, the law — and the process for enforcing it — has changed significantly since 2022. Getting current, accurate employment legal advice Dubai is the first step.
The UAE's employment framework underwent its most significant overhaul in four decades when Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021 on the Regulation of Labour Relations came into force on 2 February 2022. This law replaced Federal Law No. 8 of 1980 entirely and introduced fundamental changes that every employee and employer in the UAE needs to understand.
The most widely felt change was the abolition of unlimited employment contracts. All new employment contracts must now be fixed-term, capped at three years and renewable. Existing unlimited contracts were required to be converted to limited contracts by 1 February 2023. This change materially affects how notice periods work, how wrongful termination lawyer Dubai claims are assessed, and how end-of-service gratuity is calculated on termination.
The law also introduced new working models — including part-time, flexible, temporary, and job-sharing arrangements — and strengthened protections against arbitrary dismissal, workplace harassment, and salary non-payment through the Wage Protection System (WPS). Cabinet Decision No. 1 of 2022 and subsequent Cabinet Decisions provide the detailed implementing regulations that apply to each of these provisions.
For employees working within the DIFC, a separate framework applies: DIFC Employment Law (DIFC Law No. 2 of 2019), with disputes handled by the DIFC Courts. We advise on both frameworks as experienced labour lawyer Dubai and employment dispute lawyer Dubai professionals.
